Lisa Sweet Appointed as Interim CEO

An experienced and knowledgeable economic development leader.

Fort McMurray, AB – August 8, 2024 Lisa Sweet, M.B.A. has been promoted to the role of Interim CEO for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism. The organization’s Board of Directors proposed, seconded, and approved a motion confirming her new role during a virtual meeting on August 8, 2024.

Lisa Sweet is dedicated to growing the economy of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, and the Board is confident that she has the experience and relationships to deliver results across our region. I’m looking forward to working with her in this new role.

Lisa is an experienced economic development professional. She started as a Senior Economic Development Officer with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in 2011. She was recruited to FMWBEDT in 2019 and has led the Business and Investment Attraction team since then. She is well respected in the profession, serving on the Board of Directors of Economic Developers Alberta.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is my home, and contributing to the success of this region is an exciting and fulfilling career. I’m grateful to the Board for their confidence in me. Our organization has an incredible team and we’re working hard for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

Dennis Vroom has led the organization as Interim CEO since April 2024. He was seconded to FMWBEDT to provide leadership during a transition period in the organization and the Board thanks him for his contributions. He is returning to his role as a Senior Strategic Advisor with the RMWB.

Dennis was a natural choice as Interim CEO and he’s a valued member of the RMWB team. We welcome him back from his secondment knowing that he has gained experience that will continue to propel his career and benefit our municipality.

Economic development is a priority for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. The Board of Directors is continuing its work to realign the organization to the goals of RMWB Council and the community’s expectations.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo provides the energy for Canada’s growth. The people who live and work here know what incredible opportunities there are. FMWBEDT can provide tools and programs to enable the local community to share in this prosperity. Our Board is working to ensure FMWBEDT is set up to succeed in its mission and grow the economy of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
