Get to know Startup YMM

FMWB’s business incubator, accelerator, and technology makerspace

An idea is a good starting point – but what do you do next? Business incubators help entrepreneurs to start or scale up. They can be a vital bridge between your idea and opening your business.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism established Startup YMM as our region’s business incubator, accelerator, and technology makerspace. Over 400 members have signed up for Startup YMM’s programs and resources – taking the first step in starting or growing their business.

1:1 Business Coaching

Business Coaching is a key program for Startup YMM. It provides personalized 1:1 coaching that is tailored to the entrepreneurial needs of each participant. Our expert coach works to help participants identify their goals, challenges, and opportunities. Each following session helps them to move forward and gain the skills to achieve business success.

Venture Mentorship

Startup YMM’s Venture Mentorship Program is another valuable program. It’s based on the Venture Mentoring Services program developed by MIT. Mentees work closely with small groups of mentors – leveraging their local business expertise. Mentors in our program provide coaching rather than direct advice. This helps entrepreneurs to gain valuable insights through guided discussions.

A Connected Community

Workshops, networking sessions, and other events help to keep our entrepreneurial community connected. These sessions range from overviews of grants or incentive programs, FAQ webinars on business licenses, and business networking. They’re free to attend and attract entrepreneurs at every business stage.
