FMWB Mobile Visitor Information Center making an impact
All there is to offer in one place
FMWB's Mobile Visitor Information Center is ready to attract and inform
At Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism, we have strategic channels set-up for marketing FMWB to visitors across Canada. To accompany this strategy, we wanted a local asset to directly capture the attention of visitors when they're here. We used to have a visitor information center but in 2016 we lost this asset to the wildfire. FMWB's new MVIC replaces the need for a static tourism information center and allows us to showcase tourism across the region in an interactive and memorable way.
Inside visitors will find:
- In-depth information and how to get in contact with local tourism operators
- Interactive regional map including information on each of FMWB's 10 communities
- VR dogsled and rural experiences of local Indigenous tourism operators and artisans
PrairiesCan funded more than half of the capital costs of this project.
Helping visitors understand the variety of local experiences
We are developing a list of key events to visit in 2025. Our aim is to collaborate with organizations and operators in FMWB that attract visitors from across Canada and even internationally. The idea is to capture the attention of visitors while they are here, and make them aware of other experiences in the region. Informing visitors of multiple experiences they can bundle or talk about at home is what allows visitors to justify longer and more frequent stays in FMWB.
Working with local operators
Each feature within the MVIC that provides information for tourism experiences was created digitally. This is so that we can be agile when information needs to be updated. Our goal is to clearly define and beautifully showcase operators in the region so that visitors can easily get in contact and book their next experience.
