FMWBEDT Newsletter insights - November 2024
Highest traffic since 2015 and tackling workforce demands with local leaders
We opened our doors to stakeholders, local leaders, and community members
It was another busy month as we approach the end of the year. Thank you all for joining us at our open house. We strongly value the input from community, stakeholders, and local leaders- not to mention the casual conversations with friends and those we do business with.
Meeting with Leaders, Municipal and Federal
We met with the Deputy Minister of PrairiesCan who visited Fort McMurray to meet with various stakeholders and municipal leaders - including Mayor Sandy Bowman and CAO Henry Hunter. The FMWB economic dashboard is showing positive year over year increases in the housing market and highway usage. A great sign of market confidence coming back.
Regional Workforce Strategy
Our team had a working session with members of the Regional Labour Market Committee to get ground-level insights into the labour market and current demands alongside specific plans of action for 2025. Our business units have been working closely with local businesses on a wide array of content and supports from sharing best-practice stories to hosting roundtable events that increase regional capacity and knowledge.
Listening to the needs of the community and aligning goals
We know that the best economic development and tourism decisions are made when community members, local businesses, and leaders are engaged to inform the strategy. This has been our mantra for the past few months and we're really happy with the results."
