FMWB Tourism PSA Campaign Videos

Project Purpose:

‘Smile – You’re a Tourist Attraction’ was one of the most memorable PSA campaigns by the Alberta government in the 1980s. It ran for over five years and inspired residents of the province to see how their customer service could contribute to Alberta’s visitor economy.

This campaign will capture a similar energy and help to improve customer service skills, foster a culture of hospitality, and contribute to the region’s economic growth and development in conjunction with our upcoming Hospitality Connections Program.

Background:

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is home to a diverse array of SMEs that play a crucial role in the local economy. However, many businesses face challenges in delivering exceptional customer service, which impacts employee retention, customer satisfaction, and overall business scalability. This campaign seeks to grow support for SMEs and front-line workers to cultivate a vibrant, respectful, and welcoming hospitality environment. This campaign and the Hospitality Connections Program will cooperatively deliver an improved visitor experience in our region.

Objectives:

  1. Inspire the local community to see how they contribute to a growing tourism economy.
  2. Recognize customer service workers who deliver exceptional service.
  3. Motivate the broader hospitality workforce to embrace nation-leading customer service.
  4. Share actionable advice on delivering memorable customer service.

Deliverables:

  1. At least three (3) 30-second videos in the spirit of ‘Smile – You’re a Tourist Attraction’.
