Welcome new Board of Directors | Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo

Fort McMurray, AB – May 7, 2024 Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism (FMWBEDT) has welcomed an update to its corporate governance.

At a meeting of Council of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) on April 30, a motion approving a new interim Board of Directors was approved.

Councillor Keith McGrath elected Chair
Councillor Stu Wigle elected Vice Chair
Mayor Sandy Bowman elected Director (ex officio)
RMWB CAO Henry Hunter appointed Director

The Board of Directors, as with other municipal corporations, continues to report to RMWB Council.

FMWBEDT operations are currently guided by Dennis Vroom, who has been seconded from the Municipality on an interim basis to work alongside existing FMWBEDT team members.

As we move ahead, we look forward to continuing to support FMWBEDT staff while engaging with our partners, community organizations, local business, Indigenous communities, industry and Council on how to best achieve economic development and tourism milestones.

We have a lot of advantages, with new opportunities on the horizon. Any success will be rooted in collaboration, respectful dialogue and doing what’s best for the community and our people.
