Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism Welcomes Alberta Business Champion Bryan Rabik to its Board of Directors

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT) announces Board updates.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism (FMWBEDT) is pleased to welcome Bryan Rabik as the newest member of its Board of Directors. As the leading organization dedicated to fostering economic growth and development in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Bryan joins a talented group of broad thinkers representing a cross-section of business leaders and representatives from key industries.

“We are excited to have Bryan join our talented Board,” stated Gregg Saretsky, Board Chair of FMWBEDT. “Bryan is a recognized business leader with a distinguished career in corporate banking spanning decades. His appointment is particularly meaningful, as he first served as Chair of the Steering Committee, which formed our organization as a competitive, municipal arms-length economic development organization.”

Bryan joins other Directors to provide leadership and strategic oversight of FMWBEDT’s Inaugural Five-Year Economic Development & Tourism Strategy – Driving the Economic Competitiveness of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. The strategy aims to increase the region’s ability to compete nationally and globally for investment, visitation, talent, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

FMWBEDT would also like to thank Jon Close, who completed his term as Board Director. We appreciate his years of service, the wisdom he imparted, and our positive strides during his tenure. We wish Jon the utmost success in all of his future endeavours.

About Bryan Rabik

Bryan Rabik is a dynamic figure in the Alberta corporate banking landscape with an impressive career in investment banking and corporate finance spanning decades. Most recently, he led a team of real estate corporate finance experts in Calgary and Edmonton, who managed a portfolio valued at $10 billion, with exposure throughout Western Canada, California, and the American Southwest, with plans to expand into eastern Canada.

Bryan’s impressive career portfolio spans various economic sectors throughout Western Canada. These sectors included the public sector with municipal and provincial governments, forestry in British Columbia’s lower mainland and Vancouver Island, mining and the finance of industry expansion, including start-ups of the early 2000s in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

During his career, Bryan also served as CEO of an Indigenous-owned group of companies, after which he was called back into banking. During his tenure in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Bryan served on various boards and committees, including Keyano College, Northern Lights Health Foundation, Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, and Wood Buffalo Housing & Development Corporation. He also served as the Chair of the Economic Development Taskforce to form what is now known as Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism. Bryan also Chaired the selection committee that recruited the organization’s inaugural Board of Directors.

Bryan holds a degree in Economics from the University of Calgary, and after a rewarding career in corporate banking, has recently retired.
